PRINCIPLES FOR RECRUITMENT PROCEDURE IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2015/2016

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS:

  1. Application for admission to doctoral studies (application form available online).     
  2. CV.
  3. Copy of the diploma of completion of second-cycle studies (or equivalent course of studies) or certificate on passing the Master's degree examination.
  4. Opinion prepared by the Master's thesis tutor or by another scientist.
  5. Summary of professional accomplishments together with additional documentation certifying the qualifications (publications, awards, work placements or courses).
  6. Photocopy of an identification document, approved with original.
  7. 3 Colour photographs (size: 4.5 cm x 6.5 cm) without headgear, on light background.
Candidates who obtained a university level degree abroad have to submit additional documents specified below.

TIME AND PLACE FOR THE INTERVIEW:

Between 15.07.2015 and 18.07.2015 interviews with selected candidates will be conducted. The candidates will be informed about the place and time for the interview by means of electronic mail. Admission to the interview is conditioned by obtaining, based on the submitted documents, the minimum of 25 points.

Information on the results of recruitment procedure will be sent to the candidate by means of electronic mail.

PRINCIPLES FOR RECRUITMENT PROCEDURE:

  1. Grade on the diploma of completion of studies: 0 – 10 p. (below “good” – 0 p.; good – 1 p.; good plus – 3 p.; very good – 5 p.; for graduates of mathematical studies the number of points is multiplied by 2).
  2. Opinion by Master's thesis tutor or by another scientist: 0 – 10 p.
  3. Publications in periodicals: 0 – 5 p. (publication in English with IF – 5 p., publication in English without IF – 3 p., publication in Polish – 1 p.) (points for various publications add up but the sum cannot exceed 5 points).
  4. Presentations at conferences: 0 – 5 p. (in English – 5 p., in Polish – 3 p.) (points for the various presentations are added together, however, may not exceed 5 points (that is, for two presentations at national conferences entitled to 5 points).
  5. Additional documented qualifications, experience and skills: 0 – 10 p. (for each certificate of language skills or courses - 2 p.).
  6. Interview (conducted in the English language): 0 – 30 p.(including substantive evaluation to 20 points, with the other aspects of the candidate's attitude and experience up to 10 points).
  7. Opinion of the future scientific tutor to whom the candidate applies: 0 – 30 pkt.

Maximum number of points: 100

It is necessary for candidates to obtain at least 40 points to be admitted to doctoral studies.

ADDITIONAL DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FROM CANDIDATES WHO OBTAINED A UNIVERSITY LEVEL DEGREE ABROAD:

People in possession of a diploma or any other document certifying obtainment of a university degree abroad, which has been deemed equal to a Polish diploma of completion of second-degree studies or long-cycle studies pursuant to the provisions on recognition of diplomas obtained on completion of university level studies abroad or on the grounds of international agreements, may be admitted to doctoral studies.

People who are not Polish citizens may enroll on and follow a course of doctoral studies following the principles defined in Art. 43 and 44 of the Act of the 27th July 2005, Law on Higher Education (Journal of Laws No. 164, item 1365 with subsequent amendments), and in Regulation by the Minister of Science and Higher Education, of the 12th October 2006, on enrolling on and following studies and training by non-nationals and on their participation in scientific research and development works (Journal of Laws, No. 190 item 1406 with subsequent amendments). With regard to the necessary documents required from the candidates the provisions of the Regulation by the Minister of Science and Higher Education, of the 1st September 2011, on recognition of higher education diplomas obtained abroad (Journal of Laws No. 196, item 1168) are also applied.

Candidates have to supply the following additional documents:

  1. Original of the diploma obtained abroad (in the case of non-nationals it has to be legalised or bear the apostille).
  2. A copy of a school certificate, secondary school-leaving certificate or a diploma of completion of university studies, based of which the candidate was admitted to studies whose completion is certified by the diploma obtained abroad which the candidate seeks to have recognised.
  3. A statement that the diploma obtained abroad has not heretofore constituted the subject of recognition procedure in any higher education institution in Poland.

Candidates applying for admission to studies may be exempt from recognition procedure if they are in possession of a diploma certifying the obtainment of a university degree:

  1. Issued by an authorised institution operating within the education system of a Member State of the European Union, Swiss Confederation, or a Member State of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) – a party to the Agreement on the European Economic Area, or a state which is a party to the Lisbon Convention on the Recognition of Qualifications concerning Higher Education in the European Region, of the 11th April 1997.
  2. Enabling the candidate to apply for admission to doctoral studies or for embarking on a doctorate in the country of its issuance.

In such a situation a candidate submits to the Board of Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Information Technology of the University of Gdańsk:

  1. An application for exemption from the recognition procedure;
  2. A certificate issued by competent education authorities or by the competent diplomatic or consular representation of a Member State of the European Union, Swiss Confederation, or a Member State of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) – a party to the Agreement on the European Economic Area, or by the competent consul of the Republic of Poland, stating that the diploma in question entitles the candidate to apply for admission to doctoral studies in the country of its issuance.
